Perfluoroelastomers ensure the proper functioning of oil and gas drilling machinery

At present, oil and gas is mainly extracted from two different sources: High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) fields, characterised by extreme thermal conditions and highly corrosive substances that can damage drilling machinery; and conventional oil fields, which present similar levels of corrosiveness but lower temperatures (approx. 150°C).

Therefore, the oil and gas industry requires durable equipment capable of resisting the harsh conditions involved during the extraction of these valuable goods. To ensure optimal and long-lasting performance when exposed to harsh chemicals and/or elevated temperature, extraction machinery now relies heavily on perfluoroelastomers (FFKM).

The financial cost of this solution is high, therefore FFKM perfluoroelastomers are only used when no other alternative manages to offer the same level of protection for drilling machinery while safeguarding the environment from hazardous chemical leaks during the extraction procedure.
